About the Poem

This poem is for anyone who has lost a parent as a child, a child as a parent or (like me) both.

My Father, My Son

As a son I lost a father,
As a father, a son -
If the choice was mine I'd rather
Had not lost either one.

I do not know where I come from
Or where I am to go.
True, this fate is less than some
And more than some can know.

My father, my son - you both I miss
But we shall meet someday
In the kingdom where angels kiss
To chase the clouds away.

Ya know, I lost my Dad just one month ago. He truly was my best friend in the whole world for all my life! I also lost my 18 year old son in an automobile accident just seven years ago. He too was my best friend. This poem touched me greatly because I know what the author is talking about. Unless you have had to do this you can not even imagine what it is like. But I know they are in Heaven and they are better off than we are. They are in a wonderful place but it hurts because I miss them so much. Two huge pieces of my heart are gone. Great poem! I feel your pain!

Because I lost my lovely 35 year old mother when I was 14 in April 16,2005. It touches me so hard, and it had impacted me that I realize that I am not alone who lost a parents like Thomas lost his father at young age. I know how he's feeling. Remember we are not alone, my mom's spirit is with me, and Thomas's father's spirit is with him.

For the first time in 33 yrs of my life. I got bored and depressed and desided to browse the internet. I thought of my Dad that ive met only once ,but still didnt know who he was or where i came from. Then thought of my 2 sons, By my lifes choices ive had to make,i have lost them both in a sick twist of fate. your simple yet. hit to the heart poem made me smile as It said what I felt. Too think a simple poem would make me feel a lil better and wake up with a new outlook. my many thanks.

You can at once the feeling of loss when the poet lost his father as well as his son. The sense of emptiness is brought out very clearly.
