About the Poem

This poem was written just days after the tragic shooting at Columbine High School in Columbine, Colorado. The callousness of the press angered me! I felt as though a part of me died that day and sobbing, I wrote this poem.

A Child Died Today

A child died today
and the whole world came to see
tuning in from coast to coast
glued to their TV.

Microphones and cameras
shoving in for the best bite.
And I, standing on the outside,
felt it wasn’t right.

Dignity is what was missing
as the media scrambled around.
Compassion never had a chance
upon that killing ground.

A child died today
and madness reigned free.
How do I know you ask?
You see, that child was me.

I really enjoyed this poem because I alse believe that the media had no place to interfer with the columbine I realize that the world wants to know but I wouldn't like the press fighting for the best story when "children" had just died. I give you complete props for this poem it was amazing
