About the Poem

The writer wonders why, as he gets older, more of the world is managed by babies.

Children In Charge

We must be getting desperate
For people who can fill the ranks
Of doctors, lawyers, police,
Even presidents of banks.

When I was young, these pillars
Were imposingly mature.
Now it seems the practice is
To pick them younger every year.

I vote yes on more like this. I know exactly how you feel. Did you ever see a cop and wonder if the boy scout uniforms had been changed? Your poem made me smile. Thanks!

Loved the poem, its so very true for I am 53-and live with my daughter and 3 girls-who 17-16-11 and being a grandma sometimes can be hard-the kids think if I sleep in the day time they have to wake me up to make sure I'm alive-to them 53 is ready for a rocking chair and nothing else, my husban died 4 years ago and boy they think I'm too old to still want a man-anyway love all the poems keep them comeing, us old folks look forward to them. Thanks-from karen
