About the Poem

I have a special person who I find is so often the inspiration for so many of my poems. When an occasion arose to celebrate their love and friendship yet again, I found mere words were simply not enough.

Mere Words

I searched among the card displays,
To see if I could find,
A little something that would say
Just what was on my mind.

However there was not a one,
That captured it just right,
For no one else can understand
Just what I'd like to write.

I even find it difficult
To try to write it down,
For how do I portray to you,
The love that I have known?

I close my eyes and what I see,
Is someone I adore;
A person who is beautiful,
Right down into their soul.

Mere words cannot describe
The many qualities you show,
The love and caring nature that
You share with those who know.

Your kind and gentle temperament,
Your sweet angelic smile,
Your softly spoken sentiments,
That reach across the miles.

Your smile and laugh that sparkle with
The softness of your sighs,
The way your face lights up a room ...
That twinkle in your eye.

The loving gestures through the years,
That quickly come to mind,
For always you've a gentle word
To calm and soothe I find.

I struggle and I search to try
To find some words anew ...
And yet I cannot capture
All the things that make you you.

I shall therefore, be satisfied
That you must simply know,
Just how I feel about you,
For with words I cannot show.

Simply superb . A humble way to tell someone you love.
Oh, my, god. This poem is AWESOME. It's even more, it's INCREDIBLE. It feels so good to know that I'm actually not the only one, who can't tell a good friend how much she likes her! When I read your poem, I was so touched, because these words could be mine! I see this girl every day, I've known her for 4 years, but I've never found the words to say how much she means to me, I always lack for words! I feel like I'm going to cry. Believe me, your poem is amazing, and I know deep inside that your friend is an angel as mine. We're so blessed to be surrounded by these angels. All the best to you, and thanks a lot for making my day with your touching poem! Ruby.

I have just created a 25th anniversary party photo book for my best friend that I have known for over 40 years. She and her husband threw the party; their eldest daughter was our flower girl. I was looking for a beautiful friendship poem for the last page of the book and I couldn't have found a better one. My thanks to Kit McCallum.
