This poem depicts what I was going through at the age of seventeen. It is an allegory of what I was going through sexually; asking myself questions that "I" never knew I'd have to confront: family problems, college, etc. The only thing that made sense to me was my faith in Jesus, which at one point, I questioned. That's why I wrote this poem.
I am salmon flowing along
The turbulent water of life,
Going and preparing to fall
Into the sea of destiny.
Where will the currents of philosophy
Lead me? I do not know.
Where will the numerous waves of
Theory sway me? I cannot say.
For obstacles of seaweed and algae
Are in my way.
Fishy temptations are aiming at me
From all directions, from seductive
Goldfish to adulterous whales.
The tiny particles of truth, I inhale.
No, I am not afraid to inhale my own.
For I am not alone.
For there is One to guide me
Through this mysterious water of mortality.
