About the Poem

This poem is about a dream that I had - I was playing with a ginger cat that I felt something strange for and then when I walked out into a group of people there was a man with red hair that I knew was the cat I had been stroking only moments before.

Unusual I know, but the poem was so vivid that it warranted a poem.

Dibbuk

Ginger Cat - but no less the witch's familiar
You have risen out of my mind's eye
In a dream.
Your metamorphosis was unspoken -
I saw you as a feline
Then a man
Transformed.
And when you switched your form
My affection altered
From a stroke of your coat
To a lick of your tongue
And a flickering in my centre.
You are no less a devil
With your wild eye
And proud head
I felt you move against me twice.
Once you pushed your face into my hands
Then your hips between my thighs
Meowwwwww.
Sigh.

And in my conscious eye
I watch for ginger cats
And red hair.
I am not afraid that you will cross my path.
I will walk under ladders
And break mirrors until
I find you.
Your laughter -
I am still listening behind the door
For you.
Perhaps I should press
My ear to the ground
And listen to the clay breathe.
I will sleep like this -
Until you rise up
Out of the earth.
And I will feel you again.
