This is four separate poems that have been combined into one as a dialogue between Artist and Fanatic. Each person speaks a line then has an unspoken afterthought. The four poems can also be read one after the other as a single poem which I have included after the dialogue. Reading this poem in both forms should give the reader an idea of what I am attempting here.
Artist: "To sing is desire, to listen is homage."
[Music defines a gifted moment]
Fanatic: 'Your rainbow of words is a rainbow of sound.'
(You color me in as you color me out)
Art: "My pen sings melody, therefore I scribble in tune."
[I rewrite the mundane into music]
Fan: 'I listen therefore I am tinted'
(You are gray in person, with or without rainbows)
Art: "My paper lyric improves my outward self-image."
[My song composes my manuscript]
Fan: 'Your colorful verse paints a rainbow on paper.'
(Rainbows require a source of light)
Art: "When my pen is dry and I am dry I wish to remain classically composed."
[My music of life shall be lovely and timely]
Fan: 'Your rainbow on paper shall be called colorful memory.'
(Light distorts inevitably over time)
***
To sing is desire, to listen is homage
My pen sings melody, therefore I scribble in tune
My paper lyric improves my outward self-image
When my pen is dry and I am dry I wish to remain classically composed
Music defines a gifted moment
I rewrite the mundane into music
My song composes my manuscript
My music of life shall be lovely and timely
Your rainbow of words is a rainbow of sound
I listen therefore I am tinted
Your colorful verse paints a rainbow on paper
Your rainbow on paper shall be called colorful memory
You color me in as you color me out
You are gray in person with or without rainbows
Rainbows require a source of light
Light distorts inevitably over time
