About the Poem

Though I am not one who tends to apply sentimental attachment to people and places, there are some places that I have left behind in my life where very pivotal moments occurred. This is about one of those places.

I must go back to my tree again,
To that lovely tree where I cried.
And all I ask is a whispering breeze
And a serene cerulean sky.

And the rustle of leaves, and the creak of the boughs,
And the grit that clings to the bark;
And the grooves of ancient forget- me- nots
The tinder for memory's spark.

To rest once again in utter peace
In those gnarled and knotted limbs,
To drift in blissful transcendence
And to make my peace with him.

What a moving piece of poetry. It reminds me a lot of the old English bard's "I must go down to the sea again, to the lonely sea and sky, and all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer me by. " Like this poem, Tina K's evokes sentiment and a yearning to reconnect to those little intangibles we hold so dear.

Loved it - sparks much more than memories!
I love this poem! It takes me back to me childhood. I read it a lot. Thank you.
Your poem touched my heart in a special way. When I was a young girl, our apple tree was my special place. When I was troubled, I would sit in its branches until I felt better. It was a place to go when I was happy too.I remember taking tomatoes from the garden and a salt shaker up to my favorite branch and just sat there and ate and comtemplated. I did the same thing when the green apples were big enough to eat, even though they were not ripe! Your poem took me back to a happier time,many, many years ago. Thank you.
