About the Poem

This poem was written when I found out that my mother had died when I was born. I was ten years old and it had been kept a secret from me all those years. My step mother and my father didn't tell me either; I found out by myself.

A baby's born without a mother or a clue;
One year old a mother comes.
For years to come the baby yells for his "mother".
As the baby becomes seven, eight, nine, ten and finally -
A hint comes like a scent riding the wind.
A piece of paper -
what another?
another mother?
"No", not now -
"Not true!"
Death strikes this mother upon baby's birth.
It dawns on the child like a haunting shadow;
the child cries an eternal cry for years.
Depression lives forever.
