About the Poem

One of the greatest things about Modern Life and society is the increased presence of easily obtainable information. Television. Movies, Books. And, yes, the Internet. Modern media gives us a perspective on people and Life we could not readily obtain in a single life-time.

But when modern media lies to the public, and gives us an untruthful image of Life, it does us the greastest disservice possible. There are, unfortunately, many such lies. This poem is about one of them, maybe the most dangerous lie of all.

When we fail to realize how rare a thing is, we too often tend to neglect its importance.

A Few Visitor Comments

simple and true
Very real and honest expression of what love is. Wonderful! :)
Many people don't know the true meaning and the power of love. Claiming it tp be any and every warm feeling they have. This poem shall be the theme of reality.
I truly believe that Mr. Carnell has a great and beautiful talent. I wish I could put into words the way I feel sometimes and my feelings about love and life.

Not A Common Thing

I hear a song and wonder why
The writers dupe and poets lie,
Why love is such a chronic theme,
When poets and the singers team.

The measure placed on what we feel,
Becomes too small, becomes unreal,
When all the truth is washed away,
And love is just a tired cliche.

The songs are flawed and movies err,
And books are often as unfair;
Despite what artists write and sing,
True love is not a common thing.

I LOVE this poem, few would dare to speak the truth that you have written. Again, thank you.
Amen, such powerful words so fitly spoken, would that all men understood the truths you have presented. Sad that most don't because of the lies told. Bravo to you for writing this.
