About the Poem

I wrote this not only for myself but for my kids. I will never give up on hope, I will never give up on love. This is about being a young, stupid teenager and maturing. This is for my daughter Cheyenne and my son Clayton and the wonderful man that finally turned to what was really important.

One Last Start

We met a long time ago in school,
Back when everything was cool,
When things got bad,
They always got glad.
We were stupid,
We were just having fun,
Until it all begun.
I was going to have your baby
We would be happy . . . maybe
The situation was too much to handle,
You were gone like a flame on a candle.
When you came back it seemed right,
But you would only stay a few day and night.
Again, I was having your baby
We could try to work this out . . . maybe.
Well, for me this was the last,
Too much time had passed,
I was stupid to think we would last.
You never looked back,
The future looked black.
Things were tough,
Finally enough was enough,
I have grown,
To hold my own,
With no more pain
I realized I had more to gain.
With all of our lives at a dance,
You want just one last chance.
You say you're ready now,
Do you really know how
To make a new start,
And not have our hearts torn apart?
Will it be worth the gain,
Or just another game of pain?
I love you with all my heart,
We can give it one last start.

I'm a young male poet. Like the one in your poem. I now know what it feels like to be on the other end of love. I had know idea what I should do. But thank you for telling me that, coming back for a doy or two was not goin to cut it. Good-bye and thank you for writing the best thing I've have and will see all year.

I just want to say I loved this poem. I am a 22 year old single mom. I had my 3year old son when I was 19. After I had him I got into some trouble and lost him for two mounths. It seemed much longer. His father has been eather in jail or preson every since. I had a bad car reak about two years ago and lost both legs and my left eye. If it was not for my son I would have died. Me and my son live by our selfs and I take care of him just fine with no man or any one eals. So to all the young mothers keep your head up and remember you don't need a man.

this poem was one that everyone whoses ever had a first love before can relate to. most people don't stay together esspecially if thier are young. there is always one more new start. in reality though all they are doing is draging out thr ending and making it more painful.
