About the Poem

I took a creative writing class this passed semester, the teacher asked us to write a poem telling someone with "higher power" how we feel about them.

So, I did.

Falling

The desks line up
Perfectly.
I drift away
Move into a corner
Books fall onto my desk
10, 15 of them.

All I can see above the mountain
Of books is your head.
5 more books pile
onto my desk.

I can imagine myself
Running through the forest.
When I stop, I see the words
"You are bad."
"You will always be alone."
"No one will like you."

I believed you for years.
I thought I was worthless
Because my mother told me,
"The teacher's always right."

hey this was really good! and it totally applies to life. maybe not to all people but alot of poeple who are consistantly having "athority figures" in thier face telling them how worthless they really are even though their opinion shouldnt matter it will always make a difference to someone. it has made a difference to me. keep writing this is the best poem i have read all day! ;-) 11 out of 10! lol
Jacob

I just graduated from college. I start teaching high school in a few weeks. Some might think as a teacher I would take offense at the poem. But I love it. I take offense at the person who called themselves a teacher and did this. I've had that teacher too. And now I plan on doing a better job. Keep on writing.
Jonny
WOW. This poem fully connects with my inner most passion. Keep writing.

This poem means alot to those who sit down at an empty desk, everyday, and do nothing but wonder why they are even there,as the work continues to pile up, and their imagination takes them away, to the hurtful words that their teacher tells them, and the nothing that gets put into their heads. this poem is there to let them know that other people feel the same way too.

susanna
I like the way she makes a mountain out of the books, climbs it to confront the teacher and finds her 'voice'. The structure of the poem builds to her release from fear. Lanora is ascending not falling!
chasytee
that is a great poem.

I really am inspired by your poem because this reminds me of how my 2nd grade teacher made me feel. She would always make me look bad in front of everybody and always sent me to have to take special classes. And worst of all my mom didn't do anything which made me feel worst. So if my vote counts for something i think your poem was fascinating.
michele
OUCH!. wow, this poem is amazing! It's harsh for the teacher and I can only imagine the look on her/his face when they read it, but that's the way it is sometimes.
Martha

I never even thought that you were talking about a teacher, so I read it over and it fits. I hated my teacher she treated as if we were her slaves. It was horrible.

WOW. that is how my 7th grade teacher was to me. she would always pick me outta everyone pick on me, just say things to that would just crush me. i went threw so much stuff that yr. i had so many stomach problems, i was put n the hospital and everything, and it was all her fault cause i hadnt had ne trouble till she started stay stuff to me. if n body has this trouble dont just sit there and let your teacher say that kinda stuff to you its not worth u gettin all tore up bout, u need to talk to your parents, or a friend or sumthin and get it worked out!

Wow, your poem really touched me, because when I was in 6th grade, I had to go to guidance/therapy because of my teacher. She always made me feel worthless. She screamed in class, as well as cussed all the kids out. I ended up crying myself to sleep most of that year. Keep up the writing, you're very talented.
