This is probably one of the first poems that I ever wrote, but it isn't until now that I find it in me to share it with others. Over the years I have lost a number of friends to drugs whether they have died literally or just mentally. This poem was written for all of those that I wish would come back to "life" and would realize that there is so much more out there to live for.
My dearest drug friend caught up in your trip,
Holding on tightly but still losing your grip.
My dearest drug friend passed out on the floor,
Full of insanity but still searching for more.
My dearest drug friend so messed in the mind,
Leaving the life you once had behind.
My dearest drug friend craving your coke,
Blinded by powder and chemical smoke.
My dearest drug friend you're slipping away,
If only you'd stop this damaging way.
My dearest drug friend hold on to your life,
Put down your gun and your blood-shedding knife.
My dearest drug friend stop selling your soul,
Stop playing with needles and paying the toll.
My dearest drug friend you're giving it all,
To drugs you'll bow down, to drugs you will fall.
My dearest drug friend you've chosen to die,
You gave drugs your life and that makes me cry.

This is a very good poem. I used it for my health project because it showed how others are affected by drugs when a friend dies from overdosing or something else. very good and very sad.

I like this poem also. It touches my heart to see, hear, and read positive things that are young black teenagers are doing. You always hear the negitive things. It lets me know that there is hope and a good future for our young people of today. Please keep up the good work.

Wow! This poem really hits home! My brother is in jail for drugs. and I've been battling with them too. Luckily I have friends who are here to help me get through this hard time in my life. I'm sick of "friends" that won't hang out with you unless you have drugs or alchohol. or know of someone that does. That's not what lifes about! Friends wouldn't let their friends do that to themselves! amazing poem!

I VOTED ON THIS POEM BECAUSE A DEAR FRIEND OF MINE IS GIVING HER SOUL TO A DRUG AND NOT REALIZING IT. SOON IT WILL BE HER LIFE AND STILL SHE WILL NOT KNOW IT. IT TOUCHED ME DEEP.

This poem has touched me in more ways than one and i would just like to thank Heather for allowing the rest of the world to see this. I hope it is not too late for your friend but it was for mine and if only i would have seen this sooner. Now i realize she did give her life to drugs.
