About the Poem

I once had a love that I thought would last forever. The only thing left of this love is the memories, and the questions of why it had to end.

I Remember

I can remember the time,
when our love was deep and true.
Promises made and forever kept,
sealed for life, "I do".

Blessed by God, Heaven ordained,
intertwined; body, spirit, and soul.
Two become one, for better or worse,
a lifetime to share, the heavenly goal.

I can remember the time,
secrets shared, memories made.
Always together, never to part,
A love so strong, it could never fade.

So tell me why you’re distant,
for reasons, I don't know why.
You pack your bags, no looking back,
You never say goodbye.

Tell me why, tell me how,
you could change your mind.
How you could turn your back,
on a love so rare to find.

My heart once so full of life,
is now broken beyond repair.
My body, spirit, and soul,
now tore in two.
This new life forced on me,
is more than I can bear.

Only love can break a heart,
and my heart your love can mend.
If you would only come home,
a renewed love God would send.

I can remember the time,
when your faith was so strong.
Nothing could come between us,
nothing could go wrong.

Tell me why, tell me how,
you could change your mind.
Remember once you believed,
our love was rare to find.

Thank you for putting my situation into words. My huband walked out on me after only 7 months of what I thought was a blissfully happy marriage. To add insult to injury, I was 2 months pregnant at the time. He walked out the door without a word and to this day I have yet to see him again. I still love him with all of my heart and pray that God will bring us together again, because we're a family now. My daughter deserves to know her father. So thank you for your beautiful words.

This peom is so true. It brings back memories of me and my boyfriend. It happened about a month ago, but it seems like yesterday, He left just like that, and know he's gone forever. I should have known by the way he was acting, it was so easy to see. And everything we did, just brings back memories.
