About the Poem

This is a poem regarding how I feel, in general, about my life today and in looking back over the years. It is about the solitude that is experienced in life and knowing that there is no other way.

The Darkness

If only it were so simple,
to cruise through life smelling roses;
but the obstacles blacken the countryside,
and we unwittingly crush them beneath our boots.

Dreams sustain us through the madness;
goals give a finish line to our race.
Yet they change with every turn, around every wall,
and remain elusive throughout the quest.

Mistakes are made, and regrets are our luggage;
we will drag them with us to slow us down.
The victories are flashes of light, sudden and unlasting, which allow us
to glimpse the road ahead before darkness descends.

Love is bitter, yet it is the bread that keeps us.
Over and over it fills us up, only to starve us.
The people whom we love shape our destinies and our strengths,
yet leave us cold and alone in the darkness.

There are others trying to race to the end;
occasionally, we bump into one or two.
The bonds we form help us down the path less lonely
but eventually, we lose each other in the darkness.

Alone is not a bad way to be;
it clears your head and focuses you on the journey.
Cherish the short intervals during the quest you have with others,
but be prepared to walk alone in the darkness.

Actually it says about the strength of the lonelyness. I Really liked it.
Lifeless
I do see some philosophy in this poem, though I do see that it is written after an experience that distorted the writer’s life and way of accepted wisdom, For me it gives confer that only numbered people feel the same … It touches the shield of our hearts Living yet lifeless … AnGeL!

I very much enjoyed this poem. It is such a touchingly true story of a persons life. Friends may come but they don't always stay is such a true statement. That part especially rang true with me because Im afraid I'm drifting apart from someone who was such a great friend in the past. Well I will blabber no longer, I leave with one last statement- This is a great poem!

Life is a sad, lonely journey. Christinia has described it beautifully in her poem. Shame that people are so busy trying to succeed in life, that they forget that success is measured by how many lives you have touched.

i loved this poem, it's not depressing to me it's realistic, i mean life really is a roller coaster of ups and downs but the downs seem to outweigh the ups and she totally gets that and i loved it b/c of that.
