About the Poem

My son was naughty the other night; and my husband, being short-tempered, whacked him and sent him to his room. I went and looked in on him and found him sobbing his heart out. After calming him down, I looked into his big blue eyes, and he asked, "Why did Daddy smack me?" I replied, "because you were naughty." He said, "But I love my daddy". I wrote this poem to my husband from my son.

Little Fellow

There are little eyes upon you,
And they're watching night and day;
There are little ears that quickly take in
Every word you say.

There are little hands all eager
To do every thing you do,
And a little boy who's dreaming
Of the day he'll be like you.

You're the little fellow's idol,
You're the wisest of the wise;
In his little mind about you
No suspicions ever rise.

There's a wide-eyed little fellow
Who believes you're always right;
And his ears are always open
As he watches day and night.

You are setting an example
Every day in all you do
For the little boy who's waiting
To grow up to be like you.

I cried my eyes out when i read this poem. I have three girls and one boy. My son is the third born and his father has always been distant from him even though we all lived together. He never really had a daddy,someone he could look up to. My son is now 12 years old and has a lot of emotional problems and his father moved away 2 years ago. I know my son aches inside wishing he had a daddy!

I've read so many poems today, but none struck me like yours. I know this poem means so much to you now, but can you imagine how it will make you feel years down the road, when your little man grows up! My little man is now 20 years old, and I wish I had written something special about him when he was younger. Keep writing!

I loved the poem, it made me cry just reading it. My son is almost 2 and he tries to be such a big helper and copy everything we do. It gets really frustrating at times though... like when he tried last night to help himself to the kool-aid in the fridge and poured it all over the floor and not in the cup. I try to get my husband to take a look at all he can teach to him, maybe your words will touch something in him.

Great Work!! Simple yet it describes perfectly how the little fellow felt... It reminds me of my little niece, how she must have felt when I scolded her!
