About the Poem

Well a well treasured friend of mine passed away in a car accident. Dying at such a young age, I began to search for answer as to why she died. She was only 17. Being a teenager myself, I found it hard to cope with the loss. So when I went out of town to Las Vegas, I began to stare at the bright lights of the casinos. As my eyes embraced the light beam of the Luxor Pyramid, I felt the glow shine through to the heavens. I felt it penetrate the skies as thoughts of despair penetrated my soul. Forever you'll be loved Vanessa . . .

Gazing Upon Pyramids

Artificial beams of light
Trying to find a ray of hope
Attempting to comb the skies

In search for truth
Yet truth must be accepted,
As she is accepted at too soon a time
Received by arms far stronger than mine

Reasons cannot be found-
As I search for why she left
As I search for why things are meant to be
As I reject the regretted thoughts of the should’ve been
I should have been there more often
As she’s always with me
Thinking perhaps I could have done something-
As I realize all of my effort would have amounted to nothing

I discover she is meant to stay-
Present in my soul
Lost in my confusion
I struggle for truth
Truth within me
Truth for why she’s no longer here

i really liked this poem. i was in a car crash with my friend and i survived but she didnt. i keep asking myself why? why her not me? why not both f us?why any of us? but i realised i need to stop asking these un answerable wuestions because they are just that. there is no way to answer them, i will always miss her she was my soulmate. i think about her every day even thougt it has been three years i am treying to move on but time doesnt heal all wounds.

roe, it's me dinah. i knew that you missed vanessa but i didn't think that you missed her this much. she was so lucky to have you as a friend. reading this poem made me realize how precious all lives are and i hope that every human being does not leave this world in regret with the thoughts of,"what if" or " i wish i could've spent more time with so and so before they left," or " i wish i could've told so and so that i loved him."
